When it comes to mainstream cancer cures, they seem to struggle with some of the most dangerous forms of cancer, such as lung cancer. Lung cancer is responsible for more than 1.6 million deaths each year, making it essential that the medical community look towards alternative means of treatment, potentially those rooted in ancient wisdom. Lung cancer is especially deadly mainly because symptoms aren’t usually experienced until the cancer is in advanced stages, and even then, symptoms like coughs or lung pain can be mistaken for bronchitis or asthma. Furthermore, those with lung cancer are generally not given effective treatment options.
Perhaps the most significant issue with current lung cancer treatments is that non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is notoriously resistant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and yet these are the treatments offered by modern medicine in addition to surgery. This is where the Noni plant comes in; this traditional Hawaiian medicinal plant has a long history of treating everything from cuts to cancer and is hailed as a health panacea in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
Noni plant extracts outperform chemotherapy
A study published in the journal Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry discovered that an extract from the leaf of the Noni plant was more effective in fighting metastasized lung cancer than Erlotinib, a popular chemotherapy drug. Even more impressive, Noni leaf extract managed to kill cancer cells without damaging healthy ones, something that chemotherapy is unable to do.
At the University of Hawaii at Manoa, researchers found that the roots of the noni plant could inhibit the spread of lung cancer in mice. Scientists at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center have now decided to research the fruit of the noni plant to see if it will be beneficial for early-stage prostate cancer treatment. This decision was based on the “strong belief through generations of Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders that the noni fruit possesses healing properties,” according to Jeffrey Huang, Pharm D.
This has led researchers to believe that all parts of the noni plant have the potential to benefit overall health in a cancer-fighting way. Most likely, the noni plant’s extraordinary healing properties come from its high content of phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamin C (a proven cancer killer) and potassium. As many fruits and vegetables also contain these nutrients, it is recommended that they form a significant part of a regular diet.
How to incorporate noni into your life
For those looking to try noni, many health food stores now offer a variety of noni forms, including noni fruit juice, noni tea, noni powder, and noni capsules. So, given noni’s ability to kill cancer cells and boost overall health, it’s certainly worth considering as a treatment option for various forms of cancer.
